Many cells tracked up from NE NSW and inland Queensland to produce chunky black radar echoes.
My first target was Allora where a storm was approaching from near Inglewood. After returning from a weekend away, I left late, fanging over the range and N through Allora, finally getting ahead of the NE-moving cell at Pilton. The storm's photogenic structure didn't disappoint, producing lots of lightning bolts:
At this point I was stopped by police where a controlled burn was no longer controlled. Thankfully, it didn't take long to regain control and re-open the road.
I stopped near Ma Ma Creek to a possible wall cloud and the colourful green telltale glow of on-board hail:
The setting sun was now starting to provide some rich colour to the storm's structure:
Around Grantham and while the rumbles were continuous, big bolts were harder to come by. That didn't stop the rain core looking pretty sexy basking itself in the sun:
This cell was petering out so I bolted back S to activity heading NE over the border ranges towards Boonah-Beaudesert. While it got scrappy, more storms followed through Warwick towards Harrisville. I chased for hours looking for lightning covering old ground, but came up empty-handed.
Here's some video of the Allora lightning:
