STORM CHASING 2005-2006

Well it's certainly been a long time between drinks. There was some brief lightning activity on friday night just gone, but I couldn't chase, and it wasn't really worth chasing anyway.

Storms were forecast today and they arrived in the form of an awesome gustfront. This is from Springwood facing W as the storm approached:

The north and south ends of this line were dumping heavy rain.

At this point, I left to try and stay ahead of the front to watch it develop. Heading south down the M1:

I took the Beenleigh Redland Bay Rd to the E, and with the slow traffic, it didn't take long for the storm to pass me.

I stopped at Redland Bay with lightning dropping around me. See if you can spot the remnants of a lightning strike in the next shot:

There was plenty of rain around but back in Springwood and large branches had come down, with a report of a roof off in Woodridge.

Very nice to finally get a storm after such a long break. Storm season has now officially finished, but winter inevitably brings a good cold storm or two. (One of the best hail storms - which also produced one of my best lightning shots - occured in May 2005.)

I drove through Woodridge two days later, and the size and number of trees down was amazing.
